S.M.S. for 4 - 3 - 22

Posted by swolfgram on Apr 3 2022 - 9:11pm
Good evening everyone

Hi everybody!  Now that you are back from a week off it's time to get back down to the nitty gritty of springtime scouting.
We have a bunch of things on the roster and even more coming up as we go further into the better weather.  We are still trying to put together a trailer clean up day.  Hopefully next weekend will be dryer over at the park and we can get a few hours in.  I'm going to be blaming Mother Nature on any inability to work on the trailer over the past few weeks.  Simply because nature can't point a finger back and is an easy scapegoat.

Here now are the top stories of the week.

Monday meeting 4 - 3 - 22

S.M.S. for 3 - 27 - 22

Posted by swolfgram on Mar 27 2022 - 9:19pm
Good evening everyone

With some of you being out for spring break there is not a lot going on this week.  I do however have a LOT of up-dates to share.
Such as our Mulch fundraiser, the April and May camp-out's, Memorial day pancake breakfast and parade, our trip this June to Kentucky, our July summer camp trip and a few other bits and bob's (remember, one only needs one bob a day).

No Monday meeting
Spring break
There will be NO meeting this week because of spring break.  Our next meeting will be on Sunday April 3rd at Good Templar Park for a spring cleaning of the trailers.  With school being the next day I think most of you will be home by then to help out.  It will be from 10a to 2p - ish

Registration for the June Kentucky trip is now open.
Last year the troop went out to Ohio to see the National Air Force Museum and learn about the Wright brothers.
For this year's June trip we will be going to the bluegrass state for some fun above and below ground.  See the place where Abraham Lincoln was born. Learn how craftsmen turn a simple piece of ash or maple into the world famous Louisville Slugger.  Take a walk underground in Mammoth Cave, North America's largest cave system.  You may even learn how Kentucky bourbon is made at the Jim Beam distillery (a tour not a tasting).  During this time down south we will be working on scout skills and merit badges during the trip.  The Geology and the Exploration badges can be attained during the time we are together.

All this and more awate in the bluegrass state.  more Info on the website.
This would also be a good time to invite any friends from inside or outside of scouting.

2022 Summer camp Registration is now open
This year we will be going to Ed Bryant Scout Reservation for summer camp.
Because Camp Freeland Leslie closed down we will be trying out this new camp.  It is just 30 minutes north from where C.F.L used to be.  There are a few big differences between our old camp and this new one.
#1. The class structure is a more open concept.  The scouts don't pre-register for badges, they sign up for them Sunday evening when we get there.
#2. The camp will be cooking some meals for us.  Lunch will be served for us in the dining hall or at our campsite.
#3. The showers and the toilets are separate.  There are also leaders and youth facilities so the kids have there's and we have ours.

Attached is the leader's guide and some of the things you can expect when we go there this July.  There are also a few things that I am trying to get the camp to add for us so stay tuned for more info as we go along.

S.M.S. for 3 - 20 - 22

Good evening everyone

Thank you to all the boys and parents that helped out at yesterday's C.I.N badge.  We hadn't done that badge in about 5 years and It was long past time to dust it off and bring it back.  A seven hour badge with an almost straight work through isn't easy.  Even with a few scouts dozing off after the five hour mark it was a smooth day.  I hope you all learned a little, got at least a little smarter and a better understanding of the genesis of our past.  The Hillsdale College sponsored US.Constitution handout is a great benefit and should be used as a useful guide to any constitution course.

Monday meeting 3 - 21 - 22, 7p
St.Marks Church Gym
For this Monday meeting we will be doing a night hike in downtown St.Charles.  We will be working on some navigation skills.  Some of you may remember when we hiked in Geneva and did the point by point map course. We will be doing something close to that style hike.

2022 Spring Mulch fundraiser.
We have a fantastic opportunity for the boys to make some money for the troop and themselves this season.  We will be selling bulk mulch supplied by Midwest Compost.  This fundraiser will be taking place from March to June.  You can also find the sale files and more on our website.  Just log on and go to the files folder,  fundraising, mulch fundraiser and all files are there.  This is an excellent way for the boys to chip away at the cost of spring / summer events and contribute to paying their own way

Troop Trailer Shake Down
G.T.P. or the shop
Main day 3 - 26 - 22
Make-up date 4 - 3 - 22
With our camping season starting up and our need for the use of our trailer getting closer we must have a good cleaning and  reorganizing.  There are a lot of out of place items and things that need to be cleaned before we get too far into spring.  If any of our families are going to be in town for this year's District 303 spring break we could really use your help.  I am trying to target Saturday the 26th with a make-up date of Sunday April 3rd.   As of now looking at the forecast prediction it will be chilly on the 26th but a good sunny day.  The cleaning would start at 10a and end by 2ish.  Location info upcoming.

Monday, April 4th, 6p - 8p, Funway roller rink Skating merit badge
For this meeting we will be going to Funway to learn the Skating merit badge.  The cost for the badge is $10.00 per participant.
This would work out great as an invitational.  If you know someone that could be interested in joining the troop, bring them out for the night.

2022 U.S.Grants Pilgrimage
Galena IL, 4 - 22-24 - 22
History, Fun, Food, Knives, Ghost stories and more awate you as we return to the historic town of Galena IL for Grants Pilgrimage.

Green Bay and Lambeau Field tour
May 13th - 15 camp-out
Join troop one as we venture behind the "cheddar curtain" to the home of the Green Bay Packers.  For the first time in as many years as I can remember Troop One will be going north to Green Bay for our May camp-out.  Venture into the depths of the Packers home field.  Explore the press box, the locker rooms, the owners box and the field itself.  This is the 3 hour tour that any fan of the sport would love to take part in.  Don't miss your chance to take part in this first of its kind trip for the troop.  More info to come as we get a little closer.

Recruiting new members
If you have a family member, a friend, an acquaintance, a Cub Scout crossover or someone transferring from another troop please let us know.  We all know that the only way for the troop to survive is for more people to join over the long run. If you know of anyone that could potentially be interested in joining, please have them come to a meeting, outing, camp-out or just for a visit.

In order for the scouts to be able to use their phones or tech on meetings or outings they need to have this certification.

Good evening everyone

Thank you to everyone that came to the Harley Davidson Museum yesterday.  We had not done that day trip and badge in a while.  It was good to get out on such a beautiful day.  Thank you to the scouts that made yesterday possible and the adults that did all the driving.

We have a lot coming up this week and this month starting with...

Monday meeting 2 - 28 - 22
Baker Church, Basement hall 7p
(Enter the church at the Cedar street door.  When you enter the church go down the hall, down the stairs, down the hall take a right, down the stairs and enter the hall).  Tonight's primary goal is to find the church basement then plan for the Tomo-Chi-Chi camp-out this coming weekend.  We will be holding workshops all weekend long with merit badges, rank requirements, guest participants, games and much more.  This is the beginning of our spring camping season and you should be there!  As of now we will be having a few guests over for the weekend.  A few scouts from Pack 154 and a few friends of our scouts want to check us out.  This is an all hands on deck weekend.
