S.M.S for 11 - 1

Posted by swolfgram on Nov 1 2020 - 7:27pm
Good evening everyone

I hope everyone had a safe and happy weekend. With everything either closed down or diminished there may not be a lot to do.  Coming up with your own activities are even more important now than ever.   For me it was listening to ghost stories on the radio until the early hours of the morning.  It's become somewhat of a tradition on Halloween for me so I hope you were able to do something you enjoyed while staying closer to home this year.

I have a few updates and a couple things for you to put on your calendar.

So here we go.

Wreath sale 2020
I hope everyone is trying their best to sell as many wreaths as possible this season.  We all know there's a lot going on and not a lot of people are even thinking about the holidays right now.  I ask all our scouts young and old to do everything that they possibly can to make as many wreath sales as possible. We know it's tough right now but every little bit that you are able to do for our troop helps immensely in the long run. Everyone on your list from last year is a potential customer.  I would also suggest calling up former scouts and those who have just recently moved on from scouting.  They have contact lists and if their families had once been willing to purchase a wreath maybe lightning will strike twice.

Monday meeting location - repost from Friday

S.M.S for 11 - 14

Posted by swolfgram on Nov 14 2021 - 10:45pm

Good evening everyone

This week we have a few things to talk about.  If you haven't been taken away with the wind you may just read this and learn of coming things.

Monday Meeting, 7p
St. Marks Church Gym,
101 S 6th Ave, St. Charles, IL 60174
For this weeks meeting we will be working on making ornaments for our Christmas tree in down town St.Charles. We will also be working on some nots, knots and more nnoottss.  We'll have a little fun on that one.

Troop trim a tree
Yes there are things to do even on the Monday leading up to Thanksgiving.  If you are home for the holiday and can help out we are trimming a tree in down town STC.  More info to come.  I know that the tree will be somewhere around the 1st street plaza.  The tree trimming will be on Monday night the 22nd.

The STC Electric Light Parade
Right after Thanksgiving STC will be holding the Electric Light Parade.  We have a trailer that we can decorate and customize for the parade.  This is something we have not done in a while so it's a nice change of pace.  Stay tuned for more info as we get a little closer.

Troop One Recharter - repost
The cost per registered scout is 135.00 and the cost per Leader is 69.00.  The price for the year has gone up for both adults and youth.  This is a rate hike on the national side and is not something that the troop is imposing.  We are expecting another rate hike from national for the 22 - 23 season as well.

We all know that these are not the best of times especially where finances are concerned.  If any of our members need help with the cost of recharter please reach out to us and let us know.

Recruiting new members - Repost
As everyone knows this is recruitment season. If you have a family member, a friend, an acquaintance or someone from another troop that may be looking to transfer then this is the time of year to do it.  We all know that the only way for the troop to survive is for more people to join over the long run. If you know anyone that could potentially be interested in joining, please have them come to a meeting or outing.

News around town
If you know of anything that is going on around the tri-city area let me know and I can post it in our next issue.

S.M.S for 11 - 15

Posted by swolfgram on Nov 15 2020 - 11:52pm

Good evening everyone

I would like to thank everyone that came out for our Veterans Day flag ceremony this past Wednesday.  Seeing as it was a mid-week event I was skeptical about anyone showing up. Thankfully my fears were wrong and five scouts from Troop 1, two from Troop 14 and a guest from Troop 80 came to help.  We had 11 pack 260 scouts participate.  I even overheard a few talking about how when they get the chance they would like to join our troop. A lot can happen in a year's time but I think if we can continue to show this Pack and others that we are still holding meetings and have been able to participate even in the toughest of times we can be here for many years to come.

S.M.S for 11 - 22

Posted by swolfgram on Nov 22 2021 - 1:02am
Good evening everyone

If the leaves are falling then winter's ah calling,  But when the wind starts to blow just let the leaves all go....in to the neighbors yard....down the road...across the street.  Problem solved!

Monday Meeting
Downtown STC 7p
For anyone still in town for the Thanksgiving week we have a special Monday meeting.  Last week the boys made decorations for our Christmas tree in this year's St. Charles light display.  This Monday we will be downtown to decorate and spruce it up a bit.  Our tree is located close to the corner of Illinois and first street intersection.
You should be able to park in the parking garage.  Our rally spot will be on the first floor of the parking garage by the first street entrance.

The Electric light parade
After a long time away troop one will return to the St Charles Electric Light Parade.  At Monday's meeting we will be going over the details of the parade and what we will need to bring with us.   As of now I believe that this Friday we will be acquiring the float trailer.  We will be Decorating it on Friday afternoon and presenting it in the parade on Saturday evening.  I will have final details Monday.

2021 Chicago day hike
December 11th
The events may unfold like this.
This year instead of taking the train into the city we would take the cars downtown and start the day at the Chicago historical museum.  From there we would go south to locations like the Billy Goat Tavern, Kris Kringle Market, and Water Tower Place / Michigan Avenue.  Because we would be touring the museum we can park in their lot for 10.00 for the day per car.  This would be a much lesser price than a weekend pass for the train.  We are still a few weeks out but we need to start planning for the day.

December P.L.C / C.O.H
We will be holding our December P.L.C / Court Of Honor and Christmas party on Monday the 13th.  As of now we have Baker Church reserved for that Monday.

This past weekend's weather could not have been better for a campout in November. I'm glad my weather machine was not on the fritz.  Thank you Mark and Luke B for taking the dreaded 130 - 4a time slot at the fire vigil.  It allowed us all to get some needed rest after a long day

There will be a lot happening over the next few weeks.  If you thought we were winding down as we get closer to the new year think twice.

S.M.S for 11 - 8

Posted by swolfgram on Nov 8 2020 - 9:42pm

Good evening everyone

Another week has come to pass and here again is the S.M.S. I want to thank everyone that came out to the Trolley Museum this past Saturday.  It was an even better showing then I expected.  I had never been there and I have been living in the area all my life.  I know some of you had the exact sentiment too.  If you know of any locations around here that are places off the beaten path that we can go to or see please let me know and we will see what we can work out.

Patrol Leaders Council and Committee meeting
Our P.L.C will be held at the Campton Hills Community Center A.K.A The Station at 6p and the C.M right after that at 7p.  The P.L.C and C.M will be a hybrid meeting. In person and Zoom style just in case you can't make it out or down.  Everyone with a position of responsibility needs to attend.  I will send the link at 5p tomorrow so anyone and everyone can tune in.

Wreath sale 2020
I ask everyone to keep plugging away as best as they can on our only fundraiser of the season.  Every scout should pull out all the stops and make every call you are able to.  I ran a quick numbers guess and if you sell around 250.00 in wreaths your dues for 2021 will be covered.  This is only a quick guess and I won't have the final numbers till Monday evening.

V.F.W fire vigil
Join Troop One in our Third annual Batavia VFW Fire Vigil Camp-out
Troop one has been invited to join 4 other troops in participating in an invitation only camping event.Troop One will be taking part in a veterans weekend recruitment camp-out.  It will be held at the Batavia VFW in Batavia IL on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of November. The campfire will start at 6pm on Friday and not be let to die out until Sunday at 8am. For Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner we will be cooking for ourselves.  Cub-scouts will be visiting on Saturday and we have the ability to get some interested in joining. We will need help tending the fire overnight and during the weekend.
Here's hoping the weather is dry.  Below are the times that we need help.

Saturday, 11/21
