The next round of letters and updates will pertain to merit badges and fundraising opportunities. I am in contact with Three Fires council to find out if the flower sale is still going on or if it has been delayed/canceled. As soon as I learn more information I will get that out to all of you. Please remember to have the boys take a look at the emails, Facebook page and our website for all the information that I have been putting out.
Over the next weeks the two primary merit badges that I want everyone to seriously consider looking into and beginning are the First Aid merit badge and the Reading merit badge. The Reading merit badge is a straightforward badge that any scout from any year can get within a week or two. With everyone being home and unnecessary travel discouraged, reading a good book may be a great way to "escape" from this situation for a little while.
The First Aid badge is important during these times for self explanatory reasons. Learning more about what you should do in times of crisis and emergency are something that the Boy Scouts have been teaching their students for over a century. Listed below are requirements for the Reading and First Aid merit badges. The troop is developing a presentation / demonstration for the First Aid merit badge that is still in the prototype phase. After we are able to send it out to everyone working through a big Eagle required merit badge will be a little bit easier.
Last night I received this message from Brock pertaining to his Eagle project. If you can help out this weekend at all any little bet would help. These are log-able service hours for rank advancement and the citizenship in the community merit badge.
I have two major updates for this weekend. Saturday will be the final day of Brock's eagle project. Sunday we have a day hike at Cantigny military park.
This Monday we will be having a special in person meeting. Nowadays as everyone knows it's very difficult to try to find something to do or a place to meet that we can actually do something. This Monday we will be taking a hike around downtown Saint Charles. At around 6:45 we will be meeting at Saint Mark's church to coordinate hikers.
Because we were not able to get enough participants for a camp-out to the sparta bike trail we will be holding a bike hike on the Great Western Trail this Saturday morning. We will be meeting at the Campton Hills Community Center at 10a Saturday morning for a 10 mile bike hike.
This is the letter that I got from the leader over at pack 260. Below are the details for this Saturday. If you can come please sign up on the website or let me know. They have a few scouts that were looking at troops and we were one of them. Everything starts at 1p.
This Saturday we will be hosting our snowball siege day at Langum park. In addition to some mindless snowball throwing fun we will also be going over Winter camping techniques, knots and lashings and anything else we can squeeze into a few hours. We are expected to have a few guests from pack 260. Depending on who attends we have the ability to make sure everyone can get at least something done. First year second year or older scout come on out.
For tonight's midweek update I'm sending out the final details for troop one's version of Lincoln's pilgrimage. This letter should have all of the details and paperwork for this weekend. If there are any questions from any of the participants let me know and I will hopefully be able to find you an answer.
Please remember to eat something before you leave, bring dinner with or have eaten something before coming. There are options in Petersburg if you want to grab a bite when you get there.
Weekend Weather
As of the most recent forecast it will be a high in the low 60's and a low in the 30's with a few showers in the morning and evening. Pack a raincoat and some blankets for the evening.
Permission slip
Attached to the bottom of this letter is the permission slip for the camp-out. As with past outings I must have a signed permission slip for those attending. When we meet up at the campground, I will have extra's with me if you need one.
Lincoln's new salem village
We will be camping at Lincoln's New Salem village just south of Petersburg Illinois. The address is 15588 History Ln, Petersburg, IL 62675
Our departure times are going to vary from person to person this time. Some of our group will be leaving in the early afternoon and some by the late evening. Since we are essentially going as a group, if there are any updates or delays in departure times for whatever the reason, please let me know.
Class A uniform and book
Because this will be an official troop event please remember to bring your full class A uniform and your scout book. We will be using them both during the weekend so don't forget either of them.
